SUSTAINABILITY
MY PROMISE
Within the floral industry comes so many opportunities for active change. And within a local agricultural community comes a responsibility to be the change that can serve as guiding light for others to follow. My promise to you, as a small business owner, is to eliminate single-use plastics, reuse any and all goods if possible, then ultimately recycle or compost what I cannot repurpose. I am an avid believer in upholding values that will protect our home and I will ensure my business will enforce and adhere to those values for our community!
Being a part of an industry means being aware of all parts of said industry, the good and the bad. Although there is so much joy and beauty that accompanies growing fresh flowers, we can’t ignore the amount of waste this industry contributes to our world. Many large scale operations use single-use plastics, harmful chemicals and have a massive carbon footprint when they import their goods on a large scale. Our promise is to maintain a regenerative microfarm and give back to our environment with ecosystem boosting biodiverse flora, sustainable practices, and compostable materials.
At Midnight Magic Garden we try our best to use the most sustainable practices available for an operation at our scale. We look to great resources like the SFN (Sustainable Floristry Network) for the guiding principles to operate a sustainable floristry business.
Composting all compatible waste to give back to our microfarm’s soil
Utilizing cover crops to return nutrition to our soil naturally vs chemically
IPM (integrated pest management) courtesy of the Environmental Protection Agency
Using Organic and/or OMRI rated products when necessary
Investing in heavy duty reusable equipment for plant production
Eco-friendly compostable packaging for all bouquets and arrangements
Compostable branding including: stickers, gift tags, dried flower sachets, Bouquet wraps all custom stamped with eco-friendly soy-based ink
Creating new products with what would normally be wasted. Ways we do this at MMG are drying fresh stems that cannot be used for cosmetic reasons and turning the dried florals into everlasting crafts and products. We then take any unusable dried florals and turn them into confetti or return the scrap to the earth!
Offering a jar return program for our customers. Check it out below!
