ABOUT

MY STORY

Midnight Magic Garden evolved from a little home garden with veggies and herbs to a full-scale urban micro flower farm. All fueled by the love of flowers and the joy it brought into my life.

My name is Nicole and I am the owner and farmer behind MMG. I came to the area to follow my dream as a prop and mold maker for a local stop-motion animation company in Hillsboro, OR. Once I had finally reached what felt like the top by securing my dream job, it didn’t feel like it was my life. It never felt like a “dream” it felt like a job that was running my life. I slowly became distant from my friends, my hobbies and my growing family. In late 2022 my body and soul had finally told me it had enough, I became quite ill with an autoimmune disease. This required me to pull back from my career in stop motion and eventually leave that path all together.

As I began my new life as a stay at home mom, I started to regain interest in my hobbies, one of which was gardening. Money was tight so my partner urged me to continue on with gardening but to do so as cost conscious as possible. I am so thankful for him and how he pushed me to work outside of my comfort zone, in turn challenging me to source everything used or free. It pushed me to engage with others because I had to make connections through outlets. I started looking on Facebook and started joining groups, one was my local buy nothing group, and boy am I so thankful I found it. The people in that group welcomed me with open arms, most of which I can thank for this business today. I started to thrive once I came out of my shell again by making local gardening friends. We started sharing seeds and resources amongst one another. Soon after, I fell in love with all things flowers.

I was restricted by not having access to chemicals or quick store bought solutions for common gardening issues, so I had to be savvy when it came to conditioning my soil or controlling pests. My only option was to research natural alternatives. The more I learned about things like trap crops, pollinator importance and what flowers brought in important players in my little ecosystem, the more I became addicted. I loved learning about all the different flowers, the different ways they thrived and how I could put them all together to create true, real world magic.

I have always been a fan of otherworldly things, a lover of magic, fantasies, and escaping the real world within books or movies. When i’m in my garden or dreaming about it at night, i’m transported into my own little magical realm. One that’s filled with flowers and a place I am truly happy. My magic garden is not only a place for me to find happiness, but in growing flowers I can give that happiness to others. I can cultivate a safe space for others online, a bright light within a bouquet, and an ecosystem to aid native pollinators to increase local populations. All of this, mixed with getting to be more present with my family, has helped me truly be happy for the first time in my life.

I am forever grateful for flowers and their MAGIC ☆
